Biography

Gilliane Warzée was born on December 19, 1977, in Bastogne, Belgium. She is a nurse at the Kirchberg Hospital and also graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Arlon, where she attended painting courses from September 2006 to June 2009.

Portraiture is her preferred theme. Faces fascinate her. They are the physical reflection of the inner being. Through their representation, the techniques and colors used, she tries to suggest the emotions, feelings, and thoughts of her subjects in an effort to make her works as humanistic, expressive, and interactive as possible. Each of her paintings bears a symbolic name related to the initial emotion felt when encountering her models. She conveys her energy, deep impulses, and sensitivity to them. In her creative process, she quickly favored the expression of the palette knife on her canvases, suitable for working with textures and light, which she combines with oil painting for its intensity, brilliance, and incomparable color nuances. Thanks to the use of fluorescent pigments, her paintings take on a fantastic effect in the dim light, offering a more ephemeral and imaginative interpretation of her work.

Femininity is at the heart of her artistic journey. It was during her first maternal experience that painting revealed itself to her. Since then, she has never ceased to place women at the center of her art. From the woman with the speaking gaze, the loving gaze, the hopeful gaze to the fighting gaze, from the one that suffers to the one that soothes... In all its diversity and generosity, she paints today's women with the same strength, the same fascination, or the same obsession, that of delving into her own condition as a woman in perpetual pursuit of freedom and equality in our society.

Official presentation of the portrait of HRH Grand Duchess Maria Teresa

I had the great honor of having the portrait of HRH Grand Duchess Maria Teresa commissioned by HRH Grand Duke Henri. Here are some photos of the official delivery of the work.

Diptych "Thank you" - in tribute to all the actors in the field, heroes of the Covid-19 health crisis

I created the diptych "Merci" at the beginning of 2020, shortly after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. This work honors the courage and selflessness of everyone who, at various levels, worked worldwide to combat this epidemic. As a nurse, I decided to donate the artwork to the Robert Schuman Hospitals where I work.

The Robert Schuman Hospitals then asked me to reproduce one of the two paintings on aluminum, to present it as a gift to the hospital staff. I am glad that my work was able to contribute to expressing the immense gratitude towards all health care workers.

Book

My art book, released August 2020 - 250 numbered and signed copies. Following the exhaustion of the stock, a reproduction of 250 copies was made in January 2023.
